The Price of Cosmetic Dentistry Today

Thanks to everyone at DentalKind.com for their help with my English and the preparation of this post. My name is China Jinghua and I'm training in the UK to be a dentist.

Most people understand that cosmetic dentistry isn’t exactly the cheapest thing on the planet – but a lot of people are still pretty blown away by just how much it can end up costing, especially in some of the larger markets like the UK (and across the globe).

If you’ve been considering getting a bit of cosmetic dentistry done (or completely overhauling and upgrading your smile with the help of a cosmetic dental professional), you’re going to want to make sure that you are making the right decision – and getting the most bang for your buck in the process.

This is a little bit more difficult than most people expect, but it’s not impossible by any stretch of the imagination.

Armed with the information in this quick guide, as well as some good old-fashioned common sense, you really shouldn’t have that much difficulty getting all of the cosmetic dentistry you’ve ever wanted taken care of at a price point that you can easily afford.

This is especially true if you’re not under the gun when it comes to a timeline to have the work performed, and have a little bit of “lead-time” to mess around with.
Nevertheless, hopefully now you’ll have a good idea as to how much specific cosmetic dentistry procedures cost and will also pick up a couple of tips and tricks to decrease the overall cost of this work.

Just how much work do you really need, anyway?

The very first thing you are going to want to do (well before you decide on any cosmetic dentistry procedures) is to figure out exactly how much cosmetic dentistry you’re actually going to meet in the first place.

This means meeting with your general dentist to get a feel for the overall health and wellness of your mouth and smile, and then (and only then) moving forward to speak with a couple of cosmetic dentists to figure out the best approach to get your smile right back on track.

Obviously, each person is going to be dealing with their own unique set of circumstances, and will have to decide how much cosmetic dentistry they are actually interested in taking advantage of – if any at all.

In fact, you’ll be surprised to learn that there are a number of over-the-counter or off-the-shelf solutions that can brighten and whiten your smile in next to no time at all, solutions that you may want to take advantage of before you take the plunge into the world of cosmetic dentistry.

Of course, that’s assuming that the issues that you’re dealing with can be treated with these pretty simple and straightforward options. If you’re dealing with a much more advanced or complex situation, you’ll want to make sure that you’re getting the right cosmetic dentistry performed by an elite level professional.

What kind of market do you live in?

Secondly, you’re going to want to consider the type of market that you live in.

Just about everyone has at least one (and more likely a dozen or more) cosmetic dentists operating within 25 to 50 miles of their home, more than enough options and opportunities to take advantage of when you’re looking to avail yourself of these services.

However, not every marketplace is created equally, either.

For example, if you’re looking to have cosmetic dentistry performed in a relatively small area of the country – a small suburb of an even smaller city, for example – you’re probably not going to have to pay the same kind of prices that you’d have to in the middle of one of the major city areas.

On top of that, you’re probably not going to have to pay as much money to have cosmetic dentistry performed in a smaller city like Bath or Exeter as you would in a larger city like London or Manchester.

Everything is relative compared to other areas and other markets in the country (and the world), and you are going to want to think about that when it comes time to price out your cosmetic dentistry.

Where you have the work performed and the reputation or the “star power” of the dentist that is performing the work will have a major impact on just how much you are asked to pay. In fact, this “extra value” can be responsible for 50% or more of the final price tag.

After all, the price of cosmetic dentistry materials is pretty fixed. The rest is based upon the supply and demand of your local area or the area in which you are having the work taken care of.

Does it make sense to fly across the country (or the world) to have cosmetic dentistry done?

Sometimes it will!

Believe it or not, you may find it to be a less expensive to fly halfway across the country to have your cosmetic dentistry taking care – including the flight, the hotels and accommodations, and the actual procedure itself – if you live in one of the more expensive marketplaces in the UK.

Areas like London, and a handful of other major metropolitan areas are incredibly expensive when it comes to cosmetic dentistry (or any cosmetic procedures, for that matter), and you may be able to get a week long – or longer – holiday out of the deal while also having your cosmetic dentistry taking care of for a fraction of the price that you would have paid in these major cities.

Do a bit of price research inside your area as well as across the nation, and then figure out what makes the most sense for you, your wallet, and your schedule.

Get the most bang for your buck

At the end of the day, you want to make sure that you are getting the most value out of your cosmetic dentistry.

This is a lot easier said than done (especially if you’re not doing all of the research and due diligence you should be), but by spending a couple of hours a night on Google and asking for recommendations from your friends, family members, and your general dentist you should be able to dig up some pretty significant deals or discounts on the kinds of cosmetic dentistry you would like to have performed.

Just remember this – you cannot put a price tag on your comfort or a high quality result. It almost always makes sense to spend a bit of extra money to get a picture perfect smile than to pinch pennies and get something that you aren’t happy with.
